Re: daughter with weight gain problem

Just my opinion, but, my 3 year-old twin who died from an adrenal crisis (and Roberta's daughter who died at 2.5 years-old) were both "too thin & frail." The surviving twin is "hearty & muscular." My thoughts are that a "heartier" child will do better in illnesses (more weight & muscle with fluids so as not to dehydrate instantly). Also in dehydration, blood glucose falls. Ugh - symptoms of low blood glucose usually don't show until hypoglycemia have set in & very low (dangerous!!!). After the stores of glucose & glycogen get used up - the body begins to use fat to make glucose (but, this glucose-making from fat process uses MORE glucose than can be made from the fat, so the glucose level is falling rapidly). ALSO, I desperately tried to get Erica to gain weight & did some, but not well enough, she still looked frail. BUT, in researching this, too low of salt can cause poor growth AND also florinef being too low or too high (I've seen both those state "poor weight gain" as a side effect). Our endo was concerned with Erica's poor weight, but his opinion was 'more calories.' I tried so hard & she was a really good eater. I even took her to the pediatrician who said "No, she's just fine, kids are better thinner." So he was no help, but I still kept trying to get her to gain. SOMETHING ELSE, thin hair or less hair on a child - can be an indication the androgens are too high even though your tests come out ok. So, if the child is eating fine, it might be the meds or that the child is not getting enough salt .... even though your tests come out ok. I just think that endos place all medicine & salt determinations on the tests & assume that because the tests are ok, that other problems "must not be due to the meds." After all the research I've done after she died, I disagree, one test every 3 months just doesn't cut it ... you've got to look at the overall health & appearance of the child.
