Re: NaCl

Hi Bobbie, My 6 month old salt-wasting son receives 2ml of liquid sodium 3x daily added to his bottle. We try to divide up his dosages of sodium equally, but it is difficult when you are giving it in a bottle and you want to keep them on a somewhat of an eating schedule. The schedule for now is around 7am, 2pm and 8pm. We are flexible with this schedule - sometimes there is only 5 hours between the last two dosages. This has not caused any problems for him. We only began solids 2 months ago so we haven't begun to add sodium to his solid foods. My son's endo believes that when he is taking solids more consistanly then we can add table salt to his food. She says to just add a little salt with each solid feeding. I have read on this board of some parents measuring specific amounts. It really depends on your child's needs. And YES it is very difficult to obtain liquid sodium. I too have gotten those "you have two heads" looks from our local pharmacy! I was purchasing the liquid sodium from the hospital. However, they have just closed the pharmacy to the public. I will hopefully be able to mail order it through our prescription plan. I hope this was of some help! Kimberly
