YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE THE SOLU-CORTEF WITH THE CHILD!!! And the oral cortef for a normal dose and extra in case a stress dose is needed. And the instruction to triple the normal dose if there is a fever of 101. For high fever (over 102 and most definitely over 103) give the injection immediately. Also have tylenol or mortrin with you (a something to take a temperature with). If this is not done then there will be shock and your child will die. The solu-cortef is also given if the child vomits more than twice and also IV fluids may be necessary to prevent dehydration. Some try the oral dose again but the safe thing is to give the injection, especially if there is fever and vomiting. But it does not have to be both - either fever or vomiting. Especially fever!!! This is true with both classical or nonclassical CAH - because both cases there is not enough cortisol being produced. Of course if there is an injury or dental work.roberta
