It is usually discovered shortly after birth, but mild expressions are reported, usually discovered in women due to problems with menstruation or fertility. What doctors do you need: (this is important) It define what is an endocrinologist, what is MD, DO and what is FACE. An Endocrinologist is a physician engaged in the study and practice of the endocrine system. Generally,these individuals will hold an M.D. or D.O. degree if medical doctors, or a Ph.D.degree if they are performing academic research. Endocrinologists play important roles in university academic research, clinical medical practice and in the pharmaceutical industry. They are specialists,experts in their field, and should serve as your main physician for endocrine disease related problems. An M.D. is a person who went to a medical college where a Doctor of Medicine degree is granted. A D.O. is a persone who went to a medical college where a Doctor of Osteopathy degree is granted. MD's follow the traditional allopathic school of thought. DO's are also trained in spinal manipulation techniques. An endocrinologist who is FACE means they are a Fellow in the American College of Endocrinology, which means they can be considered experts in the field of endocrinology and are active in the AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinology), a nationwide organization which organizes and promotes the field. The AACE is a competing organization to the Endocrine Society, which is much older. Some Endo's prefer to just be active in the Endocrine Society which does not award initials such as FACE.
