Basically, it's just an exam under anesthesia. My daughter had major reconstructive surgery at the age of 8 months. The exams were to make sure that the vagina wasn't "narrowing" or having a problem with scar tissue. He would use a foley(?) catheter of a certain size to see if he was able to insert in into the vaginal opening. If he could, o.k. If there was any problem, then he would dilate the opening a little. Eventually we reached a point where everything was o.k. everytime he checked and he wasn't having to dilate her anymore. Then we started checking just on a yearly basis, and everything was still o.k. Now she won't have to go back until she's older.Laurie
