Re: 9 1/2 year old daughter being diagnosed with CAH

My daughter was diagnosed at age 16 because of her not getting her periods and she had the start of excess facial hair. I am sorry we didn't "catch" it earlier since she would have had less of a problem with her facial and body hair. She is on 37.5 mg of dexamethasone, birth control pills and spironolactone. She has had no side effects so far with these medications. She has been very healthy and the only times we needed to have her take her stress doses were for mono in high school and for a bad strep throat. She is now almost 20, and happy that her facial hair has been vastly improved both with the medications and with some laser hair removal treatments. Our only concern for the future is her fertility if she ever wants to have a baby. but she is happy, well-adjusted 20 year old who is eagerly enjoying her college experience away from home.
