Diane, my daughter is now 11-1/2. I know of no other treatment than replacement hormones (hydrocortisone or one of the other replacement drugs). Cortisol is a stress hormone that your daughter needs in order to remain healthy. Without it, if she became ill or injured seriously, she could be in trouble. Also, you have the effects of the unwanted facial hair, acne, and short stature/advanced bone age without treatment. My daughter has been on treatment since diagnosed at the age of 3. She has had no side effects to speak of except sometimes her ravenous appetite! That usually happens right after we have to make an adjustment and increase her hydrocortison. We are learning to live with that - trying to eat healthy and give her good food choices. Otherwise, no big problems and she is pretty healthy overall.kay
