Re: Concern about CVS

Hi, Andrea Congratulations! Having a new baby on the way is an exciting, nervous time. I had a CVS with our fifth child. They mistakenly didn't take enough tissue and, while I was still on the table, they had to do a second CVS. Unfortunately, that whole test got contaminated and I ended up getting an amnio 6 weeks later! My daughter was born healthy. Because you're taking dex, some doctors recommend CVS over amnio--if everything is neg, you can get off the steroid that much sooner. However, if you're really concerned about the (slight) risks of CVS, amnio is still a good option. Incidentally, I suffered a lot of side effects from the dex and elected not to take it with my next pregnancy. Make sure you know enough about the side effects, percentage of affected females who are actually helped by it etc... my doctor was really gung-ho about it at first, but by the time my next pregnancy came along, he was my biggest supporter for NOT taking dex again. My point in all of this is: educate yourself and make sure you feel comfortable with your decisions. No matter what you choose to do, your child will likely be born healthy and beautiful. This time is very precious--relax and enjoy it. If you want, feel free to e-mail me at eirual_s@hotmail.com Best of luck, laurie
