I had an amnio 8 years ago when I realized I was pregnant with my daughter. My son had been recently diagnosed at 5 with CAH non salt wasting. With all we were going through at the time with my son and the fact that I had been trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant; when I realized and confirmed that I was pregnant, it was too late to begin with the dex treatment as I was too far along with my pregnancy. So I decided to have an amnio. The results came back negative fof CAH. We were so happy. When my daughter was born, my husband asked very directly (we have it on tape) if everything seemed OK. The pediatrician thought everything was wonderful. My husband didn't thing so. I was in denial. Well, at my son's next appointment with his endo (my daughter was a month old), we had blood work done. My daughter has CAH non salt wasting. Of course a release is always signed prior to an amnio to absolve them of any liability but we did find out that my daughter's results were at the HIGH end of normal. With a sibling with CAH, this should have sent up a red flag. I am sure there have been great strides in the procedure in these last eight years. I wish you the very best. My daughter is the light of my life (as is my son) CAH or not. My advice; always be proactive in all your choices, decisions and procedures. Good luck!
