Re: Symptoms of Acute Adrenal Crisis

Thanks Susan! Also to note, that you may just only have a couple symptoms. Vomiting is usually the first sign of an adrenal crisis. Vomiting can indicate the child needs more salt (i.e. not an illness). There may not even be a fever at all or just a very low grade one in the 99 range. You may have no fever or vomiting, but the child is lethargic. Also, your child may vomit once and that is enough to cause a crisis - the child may not even be lethargic. A lethargic child with no other symptoms can indicate low blood glucose (i.e. and maybe you can't yet see an infection, no fever even, but the infection inside the child is causing the child's system to be off). If you read the Addison's adult & CAH adult posts, these people often discuss an adrenal crisis. I remember one adult who stated recently he was bowling & pulled a muscle and that caused a full-fledged adrenal crisis. Also, many of them post about emotional stresses causing a crisis for them.
