Julie, We have two sons with CAH, a four year old and a three month old. Both are salt wasters. Although I don't have any experience with the surgeries, I do know that in times of illness, you will know if your child needs a stress dose. Our four year old rarely has complications from CAH, however, when he is ill or coming down with something, we double his Cortef tabs immediately. Our peds endo works well with us and feels it is better to err on the side of caution. Our three month old hasn't had any illness yet, but we constantly watch for signs...I think that is something you always do because you want to be prepared.
