My daughter is also one of the smallest girls in the second grade. She is also one of the smartest, one of the most athletic and , if I do say so myself, one of the prettiest. She also has a younger bone age then her real age. I think this is good because I feel, as did one of the other moms who posted, that she will have some growth in reserve. I hope so, anyway. I know some people will not respond well to his next remark but I will say it anyway. If my daughter ends up short, it still is acceptable, even enviable to be petite. It's different for a boy. My son is the one who has the tougher road to hoe. He was diagnosed with simple virilizing, non salt wasting CAH at 5 years old. He had the bone age of an 11 year old at that time. He was lucky to have responded so well to hydrocortisone therapy. When he reached age 11, his bone age was 13. He began to exhibit signs of puberty, so he was put on a regimen of Lupron injections, once a month for two years along with his Cortef. They were hoping to give him a chance to catch up with his bone age and give him more height potential. At 13, his bone age and real age were the same for the first time in his life. He came off the Lupron and was allowed to enter the wonderful world of PUBERTY! At the last visit to his endo, his bone age had advanced to age 15. He is 14. We were told his adult height would probably be no more than 5"4". There are no guarantees for that either. It might be more, it might be less. At one time they did think he might reach 5'8". We are going to see a growth specialist next month and we hope for the best. I had always wondered if my son should take growth hormone. His endo thought he was doing fine without it. Should have gone with my gut. That might be something to check into at some point. We remain hopeful for my son's chances of taking growth hormone however, since he is considered to be 96% grown, it may not be effective. One more thing, even though my son is short, he is very well adjusted. He is smart, funny and again, if I do say so myself, quite handsome. He can beat the pants off most of his taller counerparts in basketball. Go figure. Hope I was of some help. Good luck.Liz
