Re: need help getting diagnosed

Hi Kim.... How long does the doctor want you to wait? My first inclination is to say find another doctor. Then thinking about it a bit more.... My second inclination is to say find another doctor. Sorry to be so blunt but what you are going thru sounds very similar to the scenario I had in having my daughter diagnosed. My daughter was 3 when she was finally diagnosed and for 2 of those years I was far to patient with our former family doctor. By 2 yrs old my daughter was developing pubic hairs. She was also showing signs of psuedo-masculinization. When she was 2 1/2, a pediatician placed her in the hospital to do all kinds of tests but did not do the ACTH test. After a week, we left the hospital with no answers, only frustration. Even though my daughter clearly showed signs of abnormal development, I was told I was an over-concerned single mother and was told to get a hobby. Sorry, I'm clearly letting some bitterness out... but I can sympathize with your frustration. My daughter was finally diagnosed when out of desperation, I took her to a gynocologist who refered us to an endo. The ACTH test was done and clearly indicated CAH. Even in the event that your daughter may or may not have CAH, you need answers to her precocious puberty. Several of you observations are similar to what I noticed in my daughter including the constipation and depression(mood swings in my daughter). My daughter was never good at fighting off infections and a simple cold would turn into bronchitis overnight. One other thing, in the hospital,a 24 hr urine sample was taken to determine her 17OHP. I don't know why her blood was never tested for it as well. I'm not sure why they were not abnormal unless they were read incorrectly, but even later, they never were as clear as the blood samples. After several years of regularly doning both, her endo stopped finally using the 24 hr urine samples in favour of the blood tests. BTW -- what is Reynauds syndrome? My motto now when I am dealing with a seemingly unsolvable problems is..... if you can't go over the mountain.. go around it, over it, under it... just find another route. Praying that you and your daughter get the correct answers soon.
