NORD stands for National Organization for Rare Diseases. It is a organization that supports rare diseases. For example they helped push a bill that requires a drug company such as Upjohn to give the consumer a six month notification if an orphan drug (a drug used for a rare disease that doesn't make the company money) will be discontinued. There was nothing to protect the consumer if a drug company decided to drop a drug for different reasons like not making enough money ect. There were drugs being eliminated without any time to find an alternative drug. I will hunt for the woman's name and number that I spoke with from NORD. I was put in touch with her when there was a shortage of Cortef in November of '97. I had panicked and a woman from MUMS (A support group for moms with children that have diseases) knew this woman from NORD and thought she could help. I phoned her and she did help. She also told me about the Orphan Drug Law. I assumed she was the power behind it. I will email you tonight or tomarrow with her name. (I have a family emergency I have to take care of right now.) Danny has information available about NORD on the side of this page. I am SURE they can help stear you in the right direction.
