We know of no one in the family (either side) with CAH; however, about 2 or 3 yrs ago (before my dad passed away) he was showing us some old pictures and other "stuff". He pulled out this "journal" type of book that his father/my grandfather kept. It was completely in German, but my dad could remember enough German from his boyhood days to translate most of it. My father was one of either 9 or 10 children, but only 5 survived beyond the age of 2. Most died as infants, one when he was 2 and having a tonsillectomy. There was no known cause for all those infant deaths. All listed some words similar to "failure to thrive". Certainly in the very early 1900's they did not know about CAH. I feel certain having seen those records that they were probably CAH children who did not survive. There is only one survivor left from all his siblings and she is 80+ years old and living in Wisconsin. Her memory is not clear any more and it is hard to talk with her since we are in Virginia. As far as nationality is concerned, they were German. My husband's family has a strong German background too, as well as some Italian.
