Re: Corrective Surgery

My daughter had surgery at 8 months. As like the other messages above, I was amazed at how quickly she was ready to play and laugh... when I expected her to be in pain and crying. She was in surgery for about 6 hours and I think it was late afternoon/early evening when she was done. She slept pretty much right through until the next morning, then woke up happy and cheerful as could be. She didn't appear to be in any pain at all. She went home within a matter of days and we had no complications. She is now 9 years old, and about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago she had a second corrective surgery. For this one she did receive the caudal block, and it was VERY helpful in keeping her comfortable. There is also an important note made in the message above from Baiba. She mentions that a lot of blood is lost during the surgery. When my daughter had her first surgery I was later told they had almost considered a transfusion. Luckily, it didn't have to be done. But had I thought of it sooner I would have donated blood for that purpose (we have the same blood type) because I'd feel much safer knowing the source was me. It just never occured to me until then. I know this is acceptable because I have spoken to the hospitals about it. Just something to consider. Good luck to you and your daughter, I'm sure everything will be fine!
