We have 2 daughters ages 4 and 2, both severe salt-wasting 21 hydroxylase deficiency. They have always been on liquid Cortef and I never thought much about it. Recently (w/in the last 6 months to a year) their 17-ohp levels have been very high. We just got our 2 year old's results a few weeks ago and her 17ohp levels are up to 16,700!!!! We just got back from the pharmacy and the pharmacist explained to me for about 20 minutes about the problems they are experiencing with the cortef. He gave us a copy of the letter and explained that if it has been sitting for any length of time, we would need to shake it for 5 to 7 minutes until the white sediment dissappeared. How do we know though that this will "re-suspend" the active medicine? This scares me!! We trust these people to keep our children thriving and this is what we get?! WOW! We have a call into our ped. endo to discuss them going on the pills instead of the liquid. Thanks to everyone for sharing their personal thoughts on this board.
