For the pill part... we put it in apple sauce (crushed up) Brayden KNOWS the medicine is in there. We tell him... "This is your medicine." He knows that he HAS to eat at least the part of the applesauce with the medicine in it. We have our stuggles. He is not always cooperative. Sometimes I can convince him to take it in a special way. For example: his teddy bear feeds him...his truck "dumps" it in.... he eats it upside down... he eats it sitting on the couch in a funny way.... sometimes he likes to just hold the spoon himself and do it. Sometimes I have to turn the TV off or take away toys. We let him know that this medicine is needed to keep him healthy. There is no choice in IF he takes it but by giving him the choice in HOW he takes it gives him the power and control he seeks. On to the bracelet... This one was tricky for us cause we too started late. Brayden was almost 3 when we got the bracelet. He did NOT want to wear it at first. Mainly because it was too big. Again I explained to him exactly WHY he needed the bracelet. I told him that it was a very special bracelet and that if we were ever in an accident it would help the doctors know how to get him better. I sometimes refer to it as the "magic" bracelet because it helps to protect him. He knows that broken bones and cracked heads arent allowed (smile) but Just in Case an accident DID happen that bracelet would be there. It helps that the bracelet is small enough to not slip off and it also helped that he saw an older boy wearing one. I think it also helps that he knows there is no choice IF he wears it... but he did get to pick the hand it went on! Hope you find a trick that will work for you. SusanBraydensmom
