Re: pregnant with CAH baby

Congratulations! A baby is a wonderful thing! Try not to be too freaked out. We all went through this at the beginning, and have learned it is all managable (and often, not even a very big deal!) CAH kids receive replacement hormone therapy (taking orally, what their bodies do not produce naturally), so - well managed - there should be no "side effects" from the medication. I would think, before you get off onto this tangent, your doctor (s?) should be doing an amnio or CVS sampling on the baby to see if it's CAH or not; they should refer you to a pediatric endocrinologist ASAP! I would also imagine your wife should be put on dexamethasone right away, as well (if the baby turns out not to have CAH, she can stop taking it right away). Taking the dex would likely still help some at this stage of the game - it might help to prevent some of the slight abnormalities that can occur with the vagina and urethra. In any case, you'll be in our prayers - God bless!
