Chris, I did the same thing the first time that Caleb needed the shot and we live alot farther then 15 minutes from the hospital. I was panicked at evey little illness. The first two years were the worst for us with hospital stays his first year and then five shots at different times last year for vomiting. I still remember the first time that I made it through a crises without calling the endo. When Caleb got better I called the doctor just to tell him that I had finally made it through it by myself. That was the best feeling in the world.
