I hope your child's fever is gone by now. In any case, don't worry about over-dosing when your son is sick. At those times, he needs the addditional medication. Over-dosing is a problem if you do it all the time. A couple of days to help get over an illness is not going to hurt - in fact it it needed. Again, I hope he is better now.
