I will always point out the immorality of an action, especially when someone may be undecided about it. It's what makes the world a better place. Too few people bothered to voice their opinions in Russia in 1907 and a 70 year reign of terror resulted. Too few people bothered to voice their opinion in Germany in the late 20' and 30' and the Third Reicht was born. Too few people bothered to voice their opinion in America regarding the treatement of Blacks, and they remained virtual slaves until the later part of this century. Too few people bothered to voice their opinions regarding regarding state testing of CAH, and perhaps thousands of kids each year suffer from the lack of preparation that it could provide. When we fear voicing our opinions, lest someone think we're preaching, we aid chaos. There needs to be more preaching, there needs to be more people willing to offer their opinion. A great man once started a speech with these words,
"No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve."
He most definitely offended people with his opinion. He spoke fervently and with passion, and ended it with the now immortal plea, "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!"
