When I left my employment, I paid COBRA until my husband got his new insurance through a change in jobs. The insurance company sent letters to us for the new insurance company stating we were "insurable". My son was born and automatically placed on the current insurance as a newborn, so we didn't have to worry about pre-existing conditions, so I cannot help you there. We did have to pay the COBRA, though.
