Re: One more TO CHRIS D

I remember the strong feeling of sleep deprevation that you are referring to. My 4 yr old son gets his as close to 6:30 as possible 1:00pm and 7:30pm or as late as 11:00pm. We have told his docotor however, on weekends the 6:30 am dose is often later because we have been able to get our children to sleep later. She prefers that we don't go past 8:00 but I have to tell you a hand full of times he has. The 1:00 is pretty regular. Sometimes on the weekends I may forget and he gets it later but we are typically very regular with his meds. The last dose of the day.... That was the tough one. Our endo wanted him to get it at 11:00. We did that for about 8-9 months. But being a working mother and getting up at 4:30 in the morning I found that very difficult. And even more importantly so did my son. We gave us so much trouble waking him up that it got painful. I remember how my husband and I would alternate weeks. We actually put an alarm clock on top of the TV to go off at 11:00pm daily. One week he would do it and the next it would be my turn. Unfortunately at the same time our daughter was suffering from sever night terrors and sleep was unknown in our house. I finally told our endo that between the two kids it was affecting family life in our household. She allowed us on a trial basis to begin giving his meds at bedtime. 7:30 being the earliest and 11:00 being the latest. But I can tell you several years later she has never found there to be a problem. He has always been very well controlled and the "trial basis" has continued. I must say though that we typically give it between 7:30 - 8:30. OH... one last thing regarding early morning awakenings.... we have always had the rule in our house that the kids need to stay in bed at least until 7:30 on the weekends. They have to come and ask to get up and if it is to early they must go back to bed. We don't care if they sleep but they can't get up. We have found that it gets later and later. Good luck. Judy
