Hi Janet, My daughter had this procedure at 4 years old to rule out any internal irregularities. She is a non salt waster and has not had any surgery to date (she is 8 now). She was not born with ambiguous genitalia but does have a slightly fused vaginal opening that may require surgery at a later point. No internal problems were found, thankfully. My daughter came through the procedure wonderfully. She came home the same day and did not spike a fever. She was a little sore and she had a little spotting but for the most part she came through it without any ill effects. The doctor mentioned that she might feel a burning sensation when she urinated but this did not seem to be the case for her. The hardest part for me was when she was put under. I was allowed to be present to keep her calm. It was very upsetting to see her slip away. Also when we were brought to recovery, she had not awakened when my husband and I arrived so that was also upsetting to me. I tell you this not to scare you but just to share my experience and to maybe prepare you a little. My daughter has no memory of this procedure and as I said she was 4 at the time. So your little one should not remember any of it either. Sorry I can't say the same for you. Good luck and my thoughts are with you and your baby!Liz
