Re: Re: Re: Re: Cystoscopy -- what is it

To quote the brochure given to me -- Cystoscopy is when a doctor places a lighted telescope into the urethra ("pee tube") and passes it into the bladder (urine storage sac). This procedure is performed for a variety of reasons, including: looking for areas of blockage to the flow of urine, cuases of infection, the location of the tube that bring urine into the bladder, stones, performing internal x-rays and removing tubes. In Olivia case, she had no vaginal opening. Not even an indication that it is fused together. Her doctor is doing it so he can look around and see where all of her plumbing is, make sure she is pee'ing correctly (no indication she's not), to make an assessment if further surgery is needed now or when she is 8 - 10, and to take measurements. He indicated that some of the (follow-up) surgeries could be as long a 10 to 12 hours and he does not like to go into such a thing unprepared. Even though it means she will be under anithesia twice, I agree with the doctor -- I want him to be able to plan the surgery. Hopefully I've been able to answer your question.
