CHEST PAINS & CAH?
6/2/00 6:40 PM
This may sound silly, and I know that every little thing my son complains of does not have to be CAH related, but I will ask anyway just in case someone else has experienced the same or similar thing. It was my day to escort my daughter's Kindergarten class on a field trip. This involved being out in the sun for a couple of hours straight. I had to bring my five year old son with me. We only walked approximately the length of a baseball field and Ryan began complaining of chest pain, or how he put it "my heart hurts". He pointed just to the left of the center of his chest so I know his complaint was genuine. I had him lie down for a bit and gave him some fluids. Within a short time he was up and playing with the rest of the kids without anymore complaints. I never thought to ask this before, but could he have suffered heart damage during the 12 months that his CAH was being mismanaged? He was on the Liquid Cortef with the suspension problem and his bone age went from 4 to 8 in less than one year. After reading the devistating story about D.J.'s death due to the fact that he stopped taking his meds regularly I have to wonder what the last year could have done to my son. I know that all kids get growing pains, but I have never heard of anyone complaining of pain around their heart. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Could his internal organs have suffered damage due to his inconsistent meds? I will speak to his ped endo on Monday about this, but I have a real bad trust issue due to this incident so I thought who better to ask than parents of CAH kids. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance. LynnT
