Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter. I can tell from your post that she was definitely born into a loving, caring family - so she will do just fine. It is great that she was diagnosed so early. If you have read other posts, you know that there is much controversy about when/if to do the corrective genital surgery. That is something that her parents will have to talk to doctors about and give serious consideration before making a decision. So far I have not been faced with that with my daughter, but probably somewhere down the road she may need vaginoplasty. My daughter is 11 and she is a non-salt waster and had minor viralization at birth. Yes, she takes medications (hydrocortone and florinef) and yes, she leads a pretty normal life. She participates in sports, is in Girl Scouts, goes camping, boating, has a wonderful singing voice, etc. You can expect the same for your beautiful granddaughter. There will be some rough times (when she is ill or if she gets injured), but with proper care she will be just fine. You have definitely come to the right place for support and to learn about this disorder. There are many wonderful people on this board who post frequently. They will share their stories - and opinions. I have found all this to be extremely helpful. One thing I would mention is that your granddaughter should have a Medic Alert bracelet/anklet as soon as possible. This is very important in the event she was hurt and emergency personnel had to tend to her. They must know about her condition and what is required. Medic Alert is great because they will keep your medical info on file and you can update whenever you need to. Also, be sure her parents have the emergency medication (solu-Cortef) on hand and know when/how to administer it. Hopefully, it won't be necessary - or at least not very often - but it is something they must know how to do. Lastly, because this is getting toooo long, please come back and visit this board often and encourage Rebecca's parents to visit. It is a wonderful place!Kay
