We just met with my son's ped endo and once again he appears to be oversuppressed. He was on the liquid Cortef (oh how I now curse the stuff) until March, taking 11 mg per day. Since we switched him to the pill form of Cortef he has continued to show signs of oversuppression. His levels are too low, he has slowed growth and weigh gain, a slight hump on his upper back, a slighy moon face. He was first reduced to 10 mgs/day, then 8.75/day, now 7.5mgs/day. We also are going to increase his Florinef, from .1mg tab per day to .1 mg tab + .05 mg tab per day because his renin was very low (although his sodium and pot were fine). He is almost two years old so I haven't been doing this too long. I am very concerned. I know oversuppression/undersuppression is a difficult balance, but it just seems we can't get it right. So, some questions for you all - the real life experts. 1) Have you or your children ever gone through a series of reductions in meds like this? 2) How can his renin be too low if he is being oversuppressed? Will more florinef help this? 3) Is there an adjustment time for switch from liquid to pills? Or, phrased another way, are we making changes too quickly? We have made a change then tested him 3-4 weeks later. Thank you in advance. I just get so depressed by this condition. I feel like I do everything I can to learn all I can and find him the best dr. and then we still can't get it right.Chris D
