Yes - Dr. New office can test for the Human Leukocyle Antigen (HLA). You are probably familiar with the way that red bllod cells can be typed A, O, B, etc. White blood cells can be typed in a similar way. The typing is a way of looking at which cell surface proteins are on the white blood cells. These proteins are called human leukocyte antigens, or HLA. Within a family, the gene for the adrenal enzyme and genes for the HLA are passes on together since they are located very close together on the sixth (6th) chromosome. The HLA type B14 is othen seen with nonclassical nonsalt wasting CAH; and BW47 is associated with classical salt wasting CAH.
