You are on the right track. That is what I have done. My daughter who will be three soon. I was giving my daughter her meds at a recent picnic. It was not like I announced I was giving her meds. I quietly gave them to her when a little girl about 9 or 10 approached me. Then the kids multiplied. The questions started like a press conference. They are soooooo curious. I kept it simple but my first response to myself was panick, that these kids would think of her as different. But they were all so understanding of the simple terms. One almost cried she felt so bad for her when she saw the solu-cortef in the bag. I guess it was the needle that upset her. Then I explained the best I could that it was only for emergencies. They told me they were all familiar with diabetes (sp?) That they were taught about it in school. Hmmmm, that would be something to bring into the schools. To talk about children with special medical needs. Not any specific disease. Just to get them comfortable with this kind of stuff. They all asked if she was sick. That is an automatic question when you see meds being given. If any of you mom's are familiar with the cartoon and books called "Arthur", they adressed this issue VERY well. One of the characters had emphysema. They also have programs that bring the physically handicapp to school to talk with the kids. This program is to make children comfortable with the disabled. Ok, to get back to your original question, depending on who is asking, minimal info. is the best.
