Re: CAH is not a disability!

I could be wrong, but I think disability benefits fall into more than one category. There is the standard "true handicap" disability that prevents a person from working, etc... But I think there is also another form of disability for lifelong medical conditions. This is more of a welfare-type program for people in financial difficulty, who might not otherwise be able to afford medical treatment. I'm not sure how this all works, but I know it was something presented to me when my husband was laid off from work and we lost our health insurance. Our doctor wrote a letter for us so that we could get disability to cover our daughter's medical expenses. Fortunately, my husband found another job and we never had to go through the steps of applying for disability. But, if worse came to worse, I would've done whatever was necessary to make sure my daughter's health needs were taken care of. I agree that CAH is not a disability. But I think there are different forms of disability coverage. I'm no authority on the subject and I could be completely wrong, but I was told there is disability coverage for lifelong medical conditions when financial help is needed. This coverage is reviewed on a yearly basis to see if help is still needed.
