All of our doctors give their medicine 3 times a day. I will tell you why. We give this 3 times a day because it keeps the childs levels pretty even throughout the day. We give it every 8 hours. No, it is not practicle. Some parents give it at different times but stay in the range of every 8 hours. BUT ALL GIVE THEM THEIR MEDICATION THREE TIMES A DAY. Since the body cannot produce what we are giving them, giving this medication three times a day keeps their levels pretty even. May I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor? The body requires this medication to always be in the body. I wake my daughter in the morning for her first dose. She really does not wake up. She opens her mouth and turns over to go back to sleep. I am just encouraging this. Also, I want to encourage you to treat CAH very important, yet make it an every day thing for your child. You may have to say to yourself that yes, my child has this disease, disorder. But, it is ok. I am going to take this day by day and do the best that I can do. We have discussed on this board what to tell our children when they ask why they have to take medicine every day. What we basically all said was that each person is different. Some need to wear glasses because they were not born with the vision that you have, some don't. Some need to walk with a cane or perhaps wheelchair, some don't. With you, we need to give this medicine that has something special in it because your body cannot make it. Everybody has something to deal with. My doctor told me that we are going to introduce my daughter to her disorder in steps. She is a salt waster and will be three in a couple of weeks. You need to discuss this disorder in the language and comprehension of the age your child is presently at. Children look to their parents for EVERYTHING. The way you deal with CAH will be the way your child deals with it. If you try to "sheild" the child so he or she doesn't feel like he is "sick", you are only hurting him. Yes, this is A VERY SERIOUS DISORDER. But it is something that is totally treatable. I wish to God everyday my daughter did not need to take medication, or get blood draws. I hate them. And I curse CAH everytime an illness occurs with her. But with God and these angels on this board, we manage to get through it. And so will you. Thank you for the prayers for our children. Your's too will be added to my list. I am so glad you came here to find all of us. It is through the pure love for our children that we are here on this board. God bless. Keep the questions coming!
