I have an 18 week old son who was diagnosed with CAH through the newborn screening test. (Thank goodness our state tests for CAH!) He seemed perfectly healthy and finding out something was “wrong” really took my husband and our extended families by surprise. We are trying to learn as much as possible about CAH. My son (who is our first child) has classic CAH and is considered a non-salt waster. His meds consist of 2 mg of the liquid Cortef 3 times a day (6am, 2pm, 10pm). After our first blood test our endo felt his OH-17 levels were still too high and we added a ˝ tablet of Florinef in the evenings to his schedule. After reading this board for the past several days we are now inquiring to our endo to have our child switched to the pill form of Cortef. I will also be much more cautious when he becomes ill (fever and/or vomiting) thanks to the information you all have shared on this board. I feel very lucky to be able to read all the valuable experiences and advice that you all post! (I am going to read the archives too.) It has already helped my family. I was wondering if anyone could help me with a concern? My son is having his 2nd round of immunizations this week and when he had his last ones he ran a fever of about 101. Our Pediatrician told me not to give a stress dose in this case just to give him some children’s Tylenol. I haven’t asked our endo yet. I am worried about him getting another fever perhaps even a higher one. Sorry for the long post – Thank you again for the wonderful information. Margaret W.Margaret W
