Re: No double doses for immunization related fever

Welcome, Margaret! In regards to your questions about immunization: We were told the same thing about NOT double dosing when your child gets a fever from their immunizations. I (and my husband) asked about this several times, because it does not seem to make sense to me, and as was said, I always assumed that you always treat a fever as a fever. Our endo explained why, but I CAN'T REMEMBER! :( Perhaps it surpresses the immune response they are striving for in giving the shot in the first place?? You might want to call your endo or an associate, and double check about this again. As far as the fever goes, our pediatrician recommended that we give our kids Tylenol or such, 2 hrs prior to the shot (so that's it's at it's peak when the shot is given); we were then to give it every 4 hours thereafter for 24 hrs, and then played it by ear. Our (non CAH) son got very sick with the immunizations, running fevers as high as 105 degrees F!! (We went to emergency for that one!), but thankfully, our CAH daughter was not bothered much by them. I hope your son tolerates his immunizations well! Good luck and God bless!
