Lynn, Thanks for your advice re: emla. When you asked "what size needle are they using", do you mean for the blood draw or when I would need to give him a solucortef injection? For his blood draws, they use a "butterfly" needle. I thought that was the smallest one they could use. He gets his blood drawn at the large Children's hospital in St. Paul, so I think they are some of the best I would have access to here in MN. Also, have they ever not been able to get blood from your son? We have run into that several times. His veins just collapse. Do you know if that is due to the size of needle they use? I always wonder if he didn't just inherit my veins. They can never get blood from me. If I fast for a cholesterol check they absolutely can't get blood from me - have had all phlebotomists, nurses and several docs in my clinic try. For the solucortef I actually have 3 different kinds (long story). One is 3ml 23g1, one is 3ml 22g1, one is 3ml 25g1. Does that mean anything to you? I assume that means big, medium, and smallest. All were given to me by Children's hosp. so I thought any would work. We have another draw tomorrow. If it doesn't go easily I will try EMLA next time. What the h***, they can't refuse to draw him jsut because he has emla on, and maybe his veins are better and it will work this time. Thanks in advance for you help.
