Dear Ashley, My child with CAH is a boy and a non-saltwaster, and many times I have thanked God that he was not born female. I cannot imagine the additional trauma and pain that you have gone through, so perhaps it would be inaccurate to say I understand how you feel. But I do know that, as a parent, it has been a tremendous privilege to hear from adults with CAH, like yourself, who can speak for themselves. I believe I know my child very well, but it is still sometimes a guessing game, trying to interpret what he is trying to communicate to me, especially when he is not feeling well. I think of our recent experience with my son's erroneous medication dose and low cortisol. It was having people like yourself around, who have been through it and are still going through it, that helped convince me that my intuition about physician error was correct. So many times, even on the Board, as with doctors, information is not always accurate, and opinions are, obviously, quite varied. I've learned to take what I need, and leave the rest. Please consider doing the same.
