Re: Cortef pill vs. suspension liquid question

There have been some good posts regarding oversupression over the last week but increased appetite is the easiest thing to look for. CAH was not our primary concern when my son was born and his first year was horrific. It has been plain sailing since he was 2yrs and all the worst case predictions have not materialised.(TOUCH WOOD!!!) We met parents from all over the UK in that first year and some of the stories we heard concerning the medical profession begger belief. Our own experience dealing with doctors in seven departments have been mixed. Out-patient appointments were over-crowded and rushed. From a parental point of view they were useless because the doctors were rushed off their feet, and I was not able to articulate my specific worries well enough. Liam's complicated medical history ment that it was difficult to separate specific concerns to a relavant condition. The only way out of this unacceptable situation was to take control of it. I bought a small diary and kept notes on his day. After a while patterns of behaviour, energy levels etc, became clear. We knew his fits were cyclical but were told that it was not possible. Our records clearly showed he had fits about every 45 minutes for a 6-7 hour period, every 7 days!!! Like clockwork. My wife is a pathologist and was convinced it was caused by the medication he was on. We were never given a satisfactory explanation but the new one stoppped the fits completely and today he is drug free and fit free.(TOUCH WOOD AGAIN!!) Guilt, by it very nature concerns past events. We rarely change anything that works well, unless experience opens our eyes or something proven better turns up. The most important thing I have learned over the last 8.5 years is that my son is a constant and the medical profession is completely transient. I have lost count of the number of new doctors I have met. My attitude, demenor, confidence, etc, completely changed when we took control of Liam's medical well-being. This board is a fantastic source of information and support, you will learn more from its users than our various endo's. There are never stupid questions or unfounded concerns when it comes to our kids, some doctors may not like them but you will always get a response here. Shaun P.
