Just got this from the peds endo listserver that I supbscribe to. If anyone is interested, I suggest that you show it to your endo for input. As the message states, you need to take this to a pharmacist who will take the trouble to compund this correctly. Here is the recipe used in our hospital pharmacy, thanks to John Tourville, our pharmacy director. He has suggested that we have preprinted prescription blanks which has the recipe on the back and the physician signs "Dispense as Written." Some pharmacies will probably not take the time to use the suspending or flavoring agents. Families should be told to make sure they use a compounding pharmacy but to stay away from the high volume pharmacies. This is likely to be worth the effort only for infants where half-tablets do not provide adequate dosing flexibility.
