Chaya: The first thing you should know is that this board is made up mainly of parents of children with CAH. Our children lead normal active lives. They just happen to need to medication everyday that their body does not make naturally. The first thing you need to do is to find a pediatric endocrinologist who is knowledgable about CAH. Many of us have found that there are endos out there who were not adequately trained in treating CAH. Your daughter needs to be tested for CAH. This is a blood test. It is called the ACTH stimulation test. First her blood is drawn, then she is given a medication to stimulate her adrenal glands. After 30 minutes to one hour, blood is drawn again to see if her adrenal glands responded normally. If she does have CAH, she will be put on medication to supply to cortisol her adrenal are not producing. Her endo should explain it all to you. If she does have CAH, she will need to take extra medication if she runs a fever, vomits, needs surgery or breaks a bone. These put stress on the body and extra cortisol is needed. Good luck and God bless you and your family. We are here for you to answer questions and give support. Amandasmom (Maxine)Amandasmom
