Two things to add to all the great suggestions above. 1) If you plan to get a cell phone, check out the different kinds. Both my husband and I have one. His works much better than mine. Mine "cuts out" quite a bit and I don't feel it is totally reliable. His works anywhere, anytime, no issues ever. We even have used his to call across the country. I think it has something to do with whether the phone is digital or analog. Something like that. 2) My son will be starting a little pre-preschool program this fall. In addition to the stuff others mentioned, I put together 2 sheets for the school. One has all his contact information, insurance data, and a brief description of his condition. The second sheet, which will be posted at the teacher's desk in his room, briefly states symptoms and what to do. It lists everything from irritability to broken bones. e.g. Unusually irritable - Jack's medicine helps him regulate his blood sugar. If he is unusually irritable it means he needs food. Please give him . . . . I am pretty nervous about this, but I think it is a big step for these little ones to experience a little independence. I figure my job is to make sure it doesn't compromise his health. Hopefully I will be successful. Thanks for the great post. I was very interested in the answers.
