The recall only came out on July 18, 2000. Not quite a month ago. There is a real possibility that your endo may not have (or ever will) received a copy that went out to the pediatric endos. It is up to you to make sure he is aware of this recall. Pretty soon you won't be able to obtain the liquid cortef anyway because it is all being recalled. You have come to the best place for support and information. The people who post here are all either caregivers/parents of children with CAH or have CAH themselves. You can't get more experienced than that. Their hearts are big and their advice is generous. Someone is always there for you whether you need them or not. We have seen each other through simple questions, surgery recommendations, colds, flu, fevers and crisis. The Liquid Cortef has been proven to be capturing some of it's life sustaining ingredients in crystalized formations on the sides and bottom of the bottle. My son suffered permenant damage from the inconsistantcy of his meds. Needless to say, I am very happy that they have finally begun to remove it from the production line. As for the flu, my "well care" pediatrician insists that my entire family get flu shots as soon as they come out each year. I must say that since we began this practice we have yet to come down with it. I would ask your child's doctor at what age it is appropriate to start giving the flu shot and go from there. If you are ever in doubt as to whether your child is getting sick or heading toward a crisis, remember that doubling or tripling the dose is not harmful on an occasional basis. Until your endo switches you to a substitute medicine, just remember to shake the bottle until you see no more white or crystalized substance on the bottle. Upjohn says it takes 5 - 7 minutes.
