Jennifer, Congratulations on your new baby! First, as others have stated, i would urge you to get a good ped. endo fast. Your child's doctor will be your major lifeline for treatment and information, and getting a good vs. bad one will make a big difference in how secure you feel in the months and years to come. This Board is a good starting point for recommendations, as there may be others who live in your area who have a doctor they really like. There are also a couple of good resources in the local public library, including several ref. books that list board certified physicians in all the medical disciplines by geographical area. There is also a book called Best Doctors in America that lists docs. singled out by other docs. as the ones they would send their own family members to, if they could not treat them themselves. Our doctor is listed in this book (though that's not how we found him) and I would definitely agree that he deserves the honor. You'll probably also find yourself, in the months to come, with a lot of questions about tests, hormone levels, and what you're supposed to look for. One of the things i've found most helpful in trying to understand CAH is the enzymatic diagram that explains what happens in the adrenal cortex. If you look at the top of this page and go to Medical Sites, you'll find an article from the American Family Physician (way at the bottom) that will have a copy of this diagram (Figure 3.) I've always found that it was very useful to visualize the different hormones produced in the adrenal cortex and realize their physical relationship to each other. That way, when you hear about 21- hydroxylase, 17OHP, androstenedione, and testosterone, etc. it is much easier to understand how they might be related. Good luck! Carol
