OOps, hit enter key before i typed anything. it's definitely a wierd coincidence that you happened to see your babysitter's child just as she was getting her diaper changed. it sounds like cah to me, all the textbook symptoms of virilization. someone else mentioned why didn't she have a crisis earlier. it's prob. because she's not a salt-waster. i think she would be still considered to be a case of classical CAH, but a simple virilizer. (Not that it's simple. i think they use the term to mean ONLY a virilizer, vs. being a salt-waster, as well.) in response to what someone else also said above, the ambigiuos sexuality part only happens when girls are mistaken for boys. i don't think the opposite is ever the case---that boys are ever mistaken for girls. it's because with CAH, there is always an overproduction of male hormones when a person cannot make cortisol. it is the excess male hormones that causes the genitals to take on the appearnace of a boy, even if a child is really female. Good luck to your babysitter. She is relaly lucky she happened to know someone like you!!!!
