In an effort to help eleviate some of the stress and anxiety about the oversuppression issues during the switch to the pill, I sat down with my saintly pharmacist today and together we went over my son's records and dose increases and decreases. We came to the same conclusion that I had stated in my post to ChrisD under her "Still Oversuppressed! Ugh" posting. It is clear that my doctor took the amount of mgs that my son was taking of the liquid and because it was not working switched him to an even higher dose of the pill form in an effort to gain controll. At that time we were told it was of the utmost importance to stop the excellerated bone growth at any cost. Needless to say, my son's levels were way oversuppressed to the point of his OHP levels being less than 10. This occured even though my husband had mistaken the 5mg pill for the 10mg pill that our doctor said he was calling in (definately check your prescritpions)so in essence he was getting only half of what the doctor had called in for. Where would he have been if we hadn't made the error? We were lucky in this case. God was definately watching over us that time. My pharmacists agrees with me that he feels that some of the doctors must not be factoring in that the liquid is not distributing its full dose due to the suspension problem so they are writing a script for a higher dose on the pill. Please be an advocate for your child and question your doctor's about this fact. I think this will be proven by the fact that there have been a couple of people on this board whose children, by the grace of God, had been under good controll on the liquid and made the switch to the pill with relative ease, at least as far as OHP levels go. There were some personality issues such as aggression and hyper activity but that seemed to resolve rather quickly. Please correct me if I am wrong. If you are like me and had a child so far undersuppressed you will be happy to see your child come back to life in any way shape or form. I feel somewhat responsible for the adjustments that anyone on the liquid has to make so I have looked into this morning, noon and night. The only thing I can say is that you must understand what you are giving your child and you must make sure that your child's doctor is allowing a margin for the virtually useless liquid cortef. The child should simply be put on a NORMAL dose for the range appropriate for your child. If someone else can say this better than this, or if anyone else has had a success story that they can share for these parents please don't hesitate to post. I know I could have used them when I was going through this. You guys are the greatest!!! LynnLynnT
