Re: My 2 cents...

A few years ago when the liquid form was unavailable, we had a pharmacy compound the cortef for us. It will be stable for about 14 days, and you may or may not have to refrigerate it. When my child was first born, the hospital compounded it and it had to be refrigerated. They can add flavorings that will make the taste better. During the time we used this local pharmacy's compounded medicine, my child's levels were excellent. But you will have to shake it, and you will have to get the drug mixed every two weeks. It is true that it is harder to adjust a dosage using a pill that only comes in 5mg. It is easy to half it, but it is not so easy to quarter it, and in fact, is illegal to do so in some states. Because Upjohn will no longer be making the liquid, they will most likely begin to make a 1mg pill. That will allow for easier and more accurate dosaging. Good luck, whatever you should decide to do.
