Homeschooling is an option I have considered too. When I bring up the subject to anyone, I am accused of overprotecting my daughter too. I was told she needed to be more social. There are several reasons besides the plain fact I would like to have my child stay as healthy as possible. (ie: religion not being allowed in school ect.) This is one of my very personal issues. I cannot afford a Catholic school that offers a school that God is allowed to attend. And many more reasons. I have looked in the library and the section on Homeschooling is quite large in my area. I think it is becoming more and more popular by the year. Neighbors across the street from our friends homeschool both there children. They seem to handle their social skills just like any other child I have met. Danny homeschools his kids. I am sure he can input more.
