Re: Curious about the change from suspension to pill

Based on what I remember from college chemistry, oh so many years ago, it is possible that a pharmasist could make the suspension where Upjohn could not. There are MANY solutions, mixtures, compounds, etc. that are not stable for any length of time. Upjohn what trying to produce a product that could be stable for a lot longer than two weeks. They wanted to mass produce it and be able to ship it so that pharmisists could keep it on their shelves until we gave them a prescription. Olivia's presriptions were for 30 days worth and I know that my pharmacy kept it on the shelf much longer than that. They were also trying to produce something that did not need to be refrigerated. All of the antibiotics that Olivia has been on that need to be refrigerated are mixed at the pharmacy -- not the drug manufacture (they only do the dry part). The important part is finding a pharmacy that you trust to make the solution. For those kids who need a dose that is less than 2.5 mg, this seems like a possible solution until Upjohn (or someone else) makes a 1 mg pill. Good luck! Janet
