I have a two year old daughter. When she was only a couple of months old I noticed something about her that scared the life out of me. I was changing her diaper when I noticed that her vaginal opening was completely fused shut. She had a very tiny opening where her urethra is, but the rest of her looked normal. Her clitoris wasn't (and isn't) enlarged or anything of that sort. I took her to the doctor, all frantic. It was something that I had just never noticed, and for the life of me I just couldn't (and still can't) remember really 'looking' at her vaginal area before this point in time. He told me that it was something very common in little girls. That sometimes they can get an internal diaper rash and the two sides of the vaginal opening will heal themselves together. He used the illustration of taking your pointer finger and your middle finger and removing the skin from between the two fingers then taping them up together. As they heal, they will fuse together. Well, in all of my hysteria, the explanation sounded fine to me. He then used this 'probe' type instrument to push through the fusion and open the vaginal area back up. When he did you could hear a 'pop' and it bled for a second. My daughter cried for only a minute and then was fine. He then gave us some estrogen cream to apply to the area so that it would heal properly. I did this and it healed, but it just has never 'looked' right to me. Her vaginal opening just seems so small. I just saw the show on the Discovery Channel "Is it a boy or is it a girl" and I am sitting here totally stunned. I feel just like I did that first day that I noticed the fused vaginal opening. But the only thing that has me confused it that she doesn't have an enlarged clitoris. It is possible to have CAH and the only symptom be a fused vaginal opening? Or was my doctor right? Was it just a fluke resulting from an internal rash? I am just so confused and scared now. I don't know who to go to. Please help.Sharon
