Hi Susan, I was interested to learn that you're not a salt-waster. Just when you think you've hit on the answer to something.... It's interesting because my son is also on dex., the same steroid medication that you're on, and it hasn't affected him as far as his bladder is concerned. To make things even more confusing, though excessive "peeing" has never been an issue for us, he does share some other characteristics of salt-wasters, though he is not a salt-waster himself (e.g. he tends to crave salty foods and drink huge quantities of liquids.) I know that some doctors think that non-salts can have characteristics similar to those who are salt-wasting; others think that it's either one way or the other. The 21-Hydroxylase enzyme occurs in both the aldosterone path and the cortisol path in the adrenal cortex, so in some ways, if you have CAH, with a 21-OH deficiency, it kinda makes sense that lack of the enzyme would affect you, somewhat, in both places. Maybe that's why a non-salt can still show some characteristics of a being a salt-waster without actually being a salt-waster him/herself. Anyone know the answer to this??!!
